Making an accurate clinical diagnosis is the first step in managing skin conditions such as rashes, infections or skin cancers. Dr. Lize is an experienced dermatologist who received training at the University of the Free State where she is still involved on a regular basis for both in academic and consulting purposes.

- Biopsy - a biopsy is often done to confirm a diagnosis. A local anaesthetic is injected into the patient and after a few seconds complete analgesia follows. A biopsy punch is used to take a sample of the skin. The wound is closed using one or two stitches. The skin sample is sent for analysis.
- Dermoscopy - using a dermatoscope, lesions and moles are analysed to help diagnose melanoma and other skin cancers.
- Intralesional Corticosteroid Injections - this can be used for the treatment of various conditions, including keloids.
- Excessive sweating - by injecting botulinum toxin into the problem area excessive sweating of the underarms, palms and soles can sometimes be treated.
- Molluscum Contagiosum - a very common viral infection that has Cantharidine (the toxin of the blister beetle) as it's treatment.
- Planter Warts - Dr. Lize has various possible treatments available.
- Eczema - patch tests, including the 43 most common eczema triggers, are available
Dr. Lize specialises in the following problem area's:
- Eczema - a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed with blisters which cause itching and bleeding.
- Psoriasis - a skin disease marked by red, itchy, scaly patches.
- Paediatric Dermatology - the branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of skin disorders in children and infants.
- Acne - a skin condition characterized by red pimples on the skin, especially on the face, due to inflamed or infected sebaceous glands and prevalent chiefly among adolescents.
- Vitiligo - a condition in which the pigment is lost from areas of the skin, causing whitish patches, often with no clear cause.
- Melasma - is a common skin problem. It causes brown to gray- brown patches on the face. Most people get it on their cheeks, bridge of their nose, forehead, chin, and above their upper lip. It also can appear on other parts of the body that get lots of sun, such as the forearms and neck.

Surgical Dermatology
Dr. Lize is able to perform all the standard surgical procedures of her field. She has a fully equipped room for minor surgical procedures. In the case of larger procedures she has access to day theaters at several hospitals in Potchefstroom.
Dr. Lize often uses cryotherapy to treat warts, skin tags, seborrheic warts, actinic keratoses and superficial skin cancers. Cryotherapy is not recommended for use on children.
Cryotherapy (n) - the use of extreme cold in surgery or other medical treatment.

Curette (n) - a small surgical instrument used to remove material by a scraping action.

Cauterize (n) - burn the skin or flesh of (a wound) with a heated instrument or caustic substance in order to stop bleeding or to prevent infection.

Dr. Lize also performs cautery, curettage, shave biopsy (on non-cancerous moles) and ellipse excision when required.
Due to the nature of these procedures patients can drive and work immediately after the procedure.
